When one phosphate group is removed from ATP ADP is created.
ADP is adenosine di -phosphate and is an adenosine molecule attached to two phosphate molecules.
(ATP is adenosine tri -phosphate and is an adenosine molecule attached to three phosphate molecules.)
ATP would have more energy as energy is created when a bond is broken. Thus energy is released when the phosphate is broken off from ATP to form ADP.
