All animals are either protostomes or deuterostomes. When the ball of cells that is becoming the new organism during early embryonic development starts gastrulation a hole appears — at the point where cell reorganisation begins. The hole is called blastopore.
The blastopore eventually becomes the mouth in protostomes.
The blastopore eventually becomes the anus in deuterostomes.
