For this discussion, you will be using the following scenario: A four-year-old child has been writing their name correctly for a few months now. Within the past two weeks, however, they started writing the M in their name incorrectly. The child’s educator has seen the child write their name correctly many times before, knows the child well, and understands that this is not something to worry about or an issue.


In your initial post:

  • Write out a “script” of exactly what you would have said to the child if you were coaching them in their writing development.
  • Determine which observation and assessment methods would help assess the child’s current level of writing development; which ones would you suggest?
  • What experiences have you had in observation and assessment methods that have influenced your suggestion?
